Men’s mental health month was started in 1949. It started as ‘Men’s Mental Health Week’, then through the years it went to ‘Men’s Mental Health Month’.
For centuries, men have been encouraged to be providers, protectors and problem solvers. Roles that leave little room for vulnerability.
*59% of men think seeking help for mental health will damage their reputation at work.
* 75% of men avoid seeking help for their mental health in fear of being judged as ‘weak’.
As a result, many men quietly struggle with depression, anxiety, loneliness and even trauma.
* 45% of men feel lonely often, compared to 33% of women.
* Men ages 45-64 have the highest rate of chronic stress in the U.S.
Depression in men does not always present itself as sadness. It can show up as irritability or even anger.
* Only 23% of men with depression report receiving treatment for it.

If you see or know someone who’s having a rough day, maybe needs someone to talk to or listen to. It doesn’t take much to lend an ear or a helping hand. That couple of minutes might not mean much to you…. But it can save someone’s life.

If you or someone you know are in need of help, please call or text the Suicide Crisis Hotline – 988
Till next time ~
