Depression is a common mental health disorder. It involves a depressed mood or loss of pleasure or interest in things.

Depression can affect all aspects of life including relationships with family & friends. It can also result to problems at school or work.

Depression in someone can be so bad that it interferes with a persons ability to do daily life activities.

  • 4.6% of men
  • 6.9% of women
  • 10% of pregnant women & women who’ve just given birth experience depression

Some symptoms of depression include:

  • poor concentration
  • feelings of excessive guilt or low self-worth
  • hopelessness about the future
  • thoughts about dying or suicide
  • disrupted sleep
  • changes in appetite or weight
  • feeling very tired or low in energy

During a depressive episode a person can experience feeling sad or irritable & loss of pleasure in activities to name a couple.

Depression is different from regular mood changes & feelings about life and lasts for long periods of time. A depressive episode can last every day for at least 2 weeks.
