Work Smart

An added flavor

I’m always up for a little added flavor in things. Like lemon in a blueberry cookie or coffee in brownies. What I really like ? Is vanilla. You can add vanilla in a lot of food & beverages and it will taste delicious! 😋

Today I bring you, vanilla sugar.

Super simple to make!

Supplies needed:

Jar or container with lid

Measuring cup

Sugar – enough to fill your jar or container.

Vanilla bean(s)

Label & marker

Step 1:

Really easy! Start by pouring some sugar into your jar/container about 1/4 of the way full.

Step 2:

Cut the ends off your vanilla bean and break the rest of the bean into 1/2”-1” size pieces.

Place a couple pieces of the vanilla bean onto the sugar in your jar/container.

Step 3:

Add more sugar.

Repeat steps until your jar/container is full.

Place the lid on and label it.

All you have to do now is wait. I had mine for 1-2 weeks before I used it and it was good.

Here are some ideas you can make with it –

Lemonade

Cookies

Bread

In coffee

Donuts

Instead of adding a vanilla bean you could also zest a lemon or orange and put it in the sugar.

Enjoy!

  1. Great idea, I’d use my monk fruit and what a great preparation for so many things. I made oils w my dehydrated spices from the year yesterday and made a sweet lemon one.. we shall see, I’m thinking salads and added my rosemary as well. I love having these things prepared for the year. Thank for that idea too for the goodies.

    1. Ohh I’ve never had monk fruit! It’s on my list to try!
You’re like me, I’ve been dehydrating and canning all our extra veggies and herbs. Stocking up for the cold months coming this way. Since my dr put me on an anti inflammatory diet all I can have is fresh not processed/prepackaged food. I’ll be making dried soup mix next and canning.

      1. Oh perfect, that’s how I’ve always been , I won’t eat processed food at all, I make everything and always have , it’s the way to go. I was thinking about a new idea that maybe isn’t new but I haven’t heard of it.. maybe 🤔 you have but if not what do you about this.. I was thinking about taking all the different fruits I have dehydrated and blending them up like I do my herbs and creating a fruit sprinkle.. I don’t eat any sugar except monk fruit sometimes in cookies or dates. I was thinking about adding chia seeds or a seed mix w the fruit and it could sprinkle on yogurt, or salads etc.. I haven’t done it yet but soon as I finish my kiwi dehydrated I’m going to make it and see how that turns out. Have you ever done it or heard of that? Sounds delicious to me.

      2. That’s a great idea to mix them! I have done it with lemons and oranges. It’s delicious! I’m going to be doing apples in a couple days. Finishing up the tomatoes now.
