The blend of aromatic spices wafting through the air. The pumpkin pie, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla. I love the smells of fall!
What if I told you, that you can put those smells in a bottle? Iโve found the perfect extract to put in pies, breads , cookies or even in apple cider!
Pumpkin pie spice blend extract:

Supplies needed:
โข 4 – 6 oz glass bottle (w/flip top lid)
โข funnel
โข teaspoon
โข vodka – 1 cup (approx)
โข 2 small cinnamon sticks
โข 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
โข 1 teaspoon of ground ginger
โข 1 teaspoon of vanilla or a vanilla bean sliced open
โข 1/2 teaspoon of ground or whole cloves
โข 1/2 teaspoon of ground or whole allspice
โข label and marker
Step 1:
Put in your cinnamon sticks, spices and vanilla in to the bottle.
Pour in the vodka, filling the bottle almost to the top.
Remove funnel & close lid.
Donโt forget to label the bottle.

Step 2:
Put the bottle in a cabinet in a cool dark space and forget about it for approx 4 weeks.

4 weeks laterโฆ.
Supplies needed:
โข funnel
โข milk bag or cheese cloth
โข bowl, jar or cup
โข your bottle of homemade pumpkin spice blend extract
When the 4 weeks is up, take a milk bag or cheese cloth, put it over a bowl. Strain the spices and extract into the milk bag or your cheese cloth. I find it easier to use a jar or cup to strain into instead of a bowl. Only because the openings are smaller making it easier to pour back into the bottle.
Rinse the bottle out to get the leftover spice remnants out.
Once all the spices are strained out, using the funnel , pour the extract back into the bottle.
Close lid.
You should have a nice, dark pumpkin spice extract ready to use!
Enjoy!
Till next time,
~ Mel
