Clutter. We all have it. Whether itβs nice nacks, mail, magazines, clothes or necessities, our garages, craft rooms, etc. Some of us even have the dreadful clutter of a Tupperware cabinet. Iβll be the first to admit, I am far from organized. Some things though, if I put them away I will never find them again. Iβm sure most of us have been there.
Going through my art & craft supplies, I tend to collect things to up-cycle. I am trying to be a little more organized in that department. So I started getting rid of thingsβ¦. Like empty containers. Thereβs even things I collected for a project to try for my blog. Bottle caps. Making a cutting board and tiles out of bottle caps. For the cutting board alone I need 250 plastic caps. Itβll be well worth it!
I know decluttering and organizing is never easy. For some of us itβs the motivation of it. Take it slow. Practice mindfulness and it goes easier. Think on the positive sideβ¦. Youβll be more organized in the end.
Hereβs some tips to help declutter-
- Declutter 1 room at a time
- If you love it, you can decide to keep it. No one said you absolutely have to get rid of something you love. Use your best judgement.
- If you havenβt used it in 6 months, get rid of it. Same goes for the rule of thumb in our closets, if you havenβt worn it in a year, get rid of it.
- Dispose of the clutter right away.
- Organized clutter is still clutter.
- Mementos are more treasured when there are few of them. Make a memory box. If you have little things, organize them in a shadow box and hang it on the wall.
- Holding on to something for the βjust in caseβ might be holding you back from the things you have to have room for.
- Make piles- to keep, throw away, donate, sell.
- You are not defined by the things you keep.
