It is that time of year for us Illinoisians where we start getting our plants ready to bring outdoors. After going through all our plants and dead heading them, fertilize them, etc. I know a couple weeks ago I did a post on using eggshells as bone meal for your plants. Today, this post is about banana water.
Banana peels carry a lot of minerals & nutrients that is good for the plants. Instead of having to go out and buy special fertilizer for your plants, one way you can give your plants what they need is with banana water. Banana peels have quite a bit of potassium, vitamin c, fiber.
Giving your plants banana water helps the plant not only grow bigger but have a better crop production as well.
Supplies Needed:
Banana Peels
Jar 3/4 full of water
Step 1
You can do this one of two ways, either keep a jar of water on the counter and whenever you eat a banana, put the peel in the jar of water and let it marinate in the water OR take a couple of peels, if you do not want to wait it out you can boil the peels in water. Once the water is cooled you can remove the peels and use the banana water on your plants.
For myself, we put the peels in the jar of water every time we ate one. It did not take long to collect the peels as there are 3 of us that eat bananas.
Once you have collected the peels and put them in a jar of water to marinate, put the lid on the jar and forget about it! Yep, leave it, forget it’s there for about 2-4 weeks at most. When the 2-4 weeks is up, remove what’s left of your peels and pour the banana water onto your plants. The peels might even be good enough still for another round in the water too.
That’s it! Try it out this year and let me know how it worked for your plants.
