Hello everyone! As I am on my journey with upcycling & repurposing things, we found this great idea on repurposing eggshells. I knew you can put your eggshells in plants, I didn’t think to go to this extent though.
Bone Meal.
Bone Meal is a natural fertilizer made from animal bones. It provides calcium and phosphorus to plants & veggies in your garden. Has a lot of benefits for plants. It helps flowers grow strong big flowers and hearty vegetables. Bone Meal is typically made from deceased beef cows. It is also a slow-release fertilizer.
Today, we are making Bone Meal with EGGSHELLS. Eggshells have calcium, protein, magnesium and more. It is also a slow release fertilizer and it will give the plants the nutrients they need just like the typical Bone Meal does.
Let’s get started shall we?

Supplies:
Eggshells
Mortar & Pestle (or something you can use to crush the eggshells with)
paper towel
Jar with Lid
Labels
cookie sheet
parchment paper
Step 1
Start by rinsing off your eggshells. I rinse mine off after I am done with the eggs, otherwise it gets mold on them. However, I do recommend rinsing it again. Now line your cookie sheet with parchment paper and put the eggshells on top of that. We are going to dry off the eggshells in the oven. Yes, you can let them air dry, but putting them in the oven also gets rid of any nasties that may be lingering on the eggshells.
Oven- 200 degrees for 15-20 minutes
Once done, let them cool off and we can proceed to the fun part.

Step 2
Once the eggshells are cooled off, we are going to start crushing them. I am using a Morter & Pestle to crush the eggshells. You can use whatever is easiest for you. A coffee grinder or food processor works well too. I just like the Morter & Pestle because it grinds the shells up to a powder.

Add eggshells a little at a time and just keep crushing them with the pestle. Once the eggshells become powder, pour it into your jar and just keep adding the eggshells till you are finished.
Really, that’s it. When we started our herbs for the year, we added our rendition of Bone Meal to the herbs. We sprinkled some in the dirt with the seeds and some on top of the dirt when done.
