Work Smart

Exercise

What are your favorite physical activities or exercises?

I like going for short walks. I have a membership to a app called 99Walks. You set a goal every month on how many miles you’ll walk that month. You meet your goal and they send you a bracelet with a motivational saying in it.

If I don’t do my short walks, like in the winter then I’ll use either my elliptical machine or the exercise bike. I’m big into wall Pilates. I have a membership to a gym which I don’t use as often. However my daughter uses it for getting a workout in for wrestling.

  1. It’s fantastic to hear about your enthusiasm for staying active through walking and your creative approach to staying motivated with the 99Walks app. Setting monthly goals and receiving a bracelet as a reward is such a unique and tangible way to track your progress and stay inspired. It’s also great that you have alternative exercises for the colder months and an interest in wall Pilates, which sounds intriguing. Given your mix of activities, how do you find the transition between outdoor walks and indoor exercises like the elliptical machine or exercise bike? Also, has participating in wall Pilates influenced your approach to fitness in any way?

    1. The only hard part in transitioning for me is in the change of seasons, like winter. I like to hibernate in the winter so it’s less going to the gym and less walks and more elliptical & exercise bike sorta thing. It’s a nice change especially since I hate the cold. I just have to be strict with myself & make sure I do it. It’s easy to get lazy. I love wall Pilates it’s a nice challenge. It’s harder then people think. Wall Pilates has made me want to do more. I feel better after a good Pilates workout.
      Motivation really is the key.

  2. First time hearing about the 99Walks app, I’m going to check it out. I’m using the app that came with my Garmin and have a little competition with friends connected in Garmin Connect. Nice post and good that the app is keeping you motivated. Sometimes we need the extra help to get going.

    1. It’s a great app overall. It helps keep you motivated even when you are having a lazy day. There’s groups you can join on there too.

  4. I am a fan of walking but often myself sticking to the treadmill or the elliptical due to weather or other reasons. I love keeping myself active and give it my best shot. I also try clubbing with a loved one to keep p the spirit and not give up when the going gets tough.
