What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?
Studies have shown to live a long life there are several factors that play an important role.
1- A healthy diet – Eating more fruits & vegetables and less processed foods. Processed foods has more sugar & fat vs making a fresh meal.
2- Exercise – studies shown it’s better to do several small workouts vs one long workout every week. Start small and work your way towards your goal.
3- Reduced Stress- mediating, journals, walks all help with reducing anxiety & stress. Staying active & being social also plays a part in our mental health.
4- Enough sleep – 6-8 hrs. a night is the recommended amount of sleep they say. Brain Health: Sleep is essential for brain health. During sleep, your brain eliminates toxins accumulated throughout the day. Inadequate sleep disrupts this cleansing process, resulting in toxin buildup. Over time, this accumulation could contribute to neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Prioritizing quality sleep acts as a safeguard for your brain’s well-being as you age.
5- Smoking & alcohol – I don’t need an explanation here. We all know how bad both are for your health. Especially excessive amounts.
Genetics also play a role in living a long life. Genetics count as 20-30% of our life expectancy.
I read a very interesting article on prolonging your life by doing simple things. They did a study on military men and women on lifestyle behaviors and found –
* adding one healthy behavior to a 40 yr old man’s life extended his life period by 4.5 yrs.
* adding one healthy behavior to a 40 yr. Old woman’s life extended hers 3.5 yrs.

All in all, I do believe in maintaining a healthy lifestyle to extend our years. As we all still have our bad habits, but there are things we can do to help.
