DIY Fabric Paper

Hello everyone! Today’s post I decided to show you guys how to make fabric paper. I had never heard of fabric paper up until a couple of months ago. It is super easy, fun & inexpensive to make.

Supplies:

  • Cheese Cloth
  • PVA Glue or Elmers Glue
  • Squirt bottle or a cup
  • Paint brush
  • Tissue paper, paper napkins – any colors
  • Scissors
  • Something to protect the surface you will be working on.

Amazon-

— I do recommend this type of cheese cloth. Regular cheese cloth has a issue sealing itself to the paper.

Start by cutting the cheese cloth to the size you desire. I cut mine big enough to make a cover for a journal. Approx. size I needed was 8 1/2 X 11. So I made the cheese cloth about 12 X 12 size approximately. You will want a little bit extra because you will be trimming the ends. Also, if you are making a journal cover, you will want maybe a 1/2′ or so extra to fold over the ends.

After you have cut the cheese cloth to size, lay out something to protect your surface and lay the cheese cloth piece you cut on top of that. I used an old vinyl tablecloth.

Now you need to water your glue down. I used a disposable plastic squirt bottle from the dollar store. I really did not use much water. I used maybe 1-2 Table spoons of water for every 1/4 cup of glue. You want the glue to be a little creamy. Kind of like a cross between looking like milk & buttermilk. Mix well.

Now’s the fun part! We have to put a layer of the watered-down glue on to the cheese cloth. Spread it on the cheese cloth with your paint brush. All over making sure you get the edges of it too.

Once that is done you start creating. 🙂

These are just a couple fabric paper’s that I did. Once I have them put together soon I will do another post on that. Hope you all have fun! Let your imagination run wild!

Will you paint on the fabric paper or is this the finished product?

    1. Thanks! It’s a lot of fun. No I’m not going to paint it, I’m going to leave them as is. I just have to put a sealer on it after I cut it.
