Pumpkins 2 ways

Hi guys! I am really in the mood to decorate for fall & Halloween. I have a lot of decorations, an overwhelming amount, lol. Normally I put out what I want and add a couple new things. I’ve been trying to get rid of a couple decorations every year. I saw a couple of different ways to make pumpkins. Super easy, fun & most likely you will already have it. If not…. dollar store or garage sales.

Let’s craft pumpkins!

The first pumpkin we are going to make is simple. Only 3 supplies needed.

Supplies:

  • Roll of Twine ( the thicker the twine, the bigger the pumpkin)
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue & Glue Gun ( optional ) – for this step, I took apart a piece of twine and used that instead of hot glue. The choice is yours.

Step 1-

To make these pumpkins I am really not sure exactly how much twine you will need. I guesstimated.

You will take the twine & wrap it around 3-4 of your fingers approx. 10x.

Once you have the “roll” of twine to your liking, take a piece of the twine you took apart and tie a knot around the roll you just made to hold it together. You are going to make 5 of these.

Step 2 –

For this step, cut a little longer piece of twine. You are going to take all 5 rolls you made, hold them together and put the piece of twine you cut all the way through the middle of them. So it comes out on both sides of the rolls.

Put a cinnamon stick against them. The goal here is to tie the rolls to the cinnamon stick. If you look in the photo below, You’ll see the piece of twine knotted onto the cinnamon stick.

Now you can sort out the twine rolls so they are evenly spread out to go all the way around the cinnamon stick.

Ta-Da! All together it took me about 10 minutes to make. Again, the bigger the twine you use, the bigger the pumpkin will be. I made one with larger twine and I wanted a smaller one. So I used thinner twine.

Pumpkin #2

For this pumpkin, I saw another Blogger on Pinterest make pumpkins out of Styrofoam. So I thought I’d give it a try. I’ll admit, this one was actually kind of frustrating. Once I did the second one, it was pretty fun & easy.

Supplies:

  • Styrofoam balls – I used a large and a medium size ball.
  • Yarn of your choice
  • Wool threading needle or a crochet hook ( something to thread your yarn with )
  • Cinnamon sticks ( for the stem )
  • Hot Glue & gun ( optional )
  • Scissors
  • Knife or scissors

Step 1

I started with the large Styrofoam ball & used the white yarn. Take either your knife or scissors and cut and opening/hole through the center of the ball. Big enough for you to get the yarn through & that a cinnamon stick can fit in snuggly.

Once that is done, thread your yarn through a needle or tie the yarn on to something and go through the hole and back up on the outside then through again. I used a crochet hook. I made a slip knot on it with the yarn. The crochet hook was the perfect length to go in and out of the ball with. Repeat.

When you first start wrapping the yarn, you can do 1 of 2 things; Either put a drop of hot glue on the Styrofoam where you will start the yarn, glue the starting of the yarn on there, let dry & continue to wrap the yarn.

OR

I started on the inside of the ball, I held the yarn on it and wrapped the yarn over it a couple of times so it’ll stay on.

You are going to keep repeating step 1 till the whole outside of the Styrofoam ball has a layer of yarn on it.

Once complete, put the yarn in the top opening of the ball. Again, you can either glue it or tie it on the lower end of the cinnamon stick then put the cinnamon stick in the opening of the ball.

That’s it. It turns out super cute! Smells good too.
