Hi everyone. There have been many times when we are strapped for cash and have to cut back on things. I get really tired of the prices also! Well, I did some research a couple months back and decided I wanted to try making my own. It is literally 3 ingredients! Thats it. There were other people that make their own as well and have shared their recipe for dishwasher detergent. To be honest, I know some of these things do work great! However I personally do not feel comfortable using things like “Borax” for example, in my dish washer. Maybe it’s because my husband uses it to kill the creeping charlie weed in our yard, or my kids have used it for science experiments like making crystals. That’s just me.
I have provided a link to an article from everyday living if you’d like to read a little about the benefits of baking soda. https://www.everydayhealth.com/diet-nutrition/diet/baking-soda-uses-benefits-side-effects-recipes-more/
I copied this little paragraph from the article:
“As a Natural Cleaner A mixture of baking soda and water can be used as an effective, nonabrasive cleaner. One use: to wipe away old food residues from the inside of a refrigerator. You can also sprinkle baking soda down the drain with hot water to freshen up your pipes, clean your tubs, sinks, and shower curtain, and buff out scuff marks from floors. (18) Oh, and don’t forget, it’s a top-notch deodorizer. Sprinkle baking soda on a carpet, let it sit, and vacuum it — and the offending stink — up.“
Here is another article on Borax- https://www.healthline.com/health/is-borax-safe#safety
So here we go, I thought I’d share the DIY I use with you guys-
Supplies needed:
Baking Soda
Table salt
Dish soap ( dawn, palmolive, Mrs. Meyer’s, etc)
In the compartent of your diahwasher where you put the tabs/dish detergent, you will put in the Baking Soda. I figured it out to be about 2-3 Tablespoons of Baking Soda.
Then a pinch of salt and 3 -4 drops of dish soap. Close the lid and your good to go.
It works great for me! My dishes come out spotless! There are no added ingredients and it is made of things we already have in our home! A win-win Give it a try and let me know how it works for you.
