Hi everyone. In our house we have quite a few pets….as we all know animals can make your house smell funky. So I did some research on how to make my own air fresheners. I already did the post on Spray air fresheners, I wanted something else. I decided to try my hand at making my own gel air fresheners. They smell absolutely amazing!!

Supplies Needed:
- 3/4 cup of water
- 1 packet of unflavored Knox gelatin
- 1/4 cup of either rubbing alcohol or vodka
- Food coloring
- Essential oil of your choice – you can buy them almost any store now a days. I bought mine on Amazon and also Scentsy online. I used Plumeria for one & Sweet Melon for the other.
- container to put your gel air freshener in ( you can use a small size Mason Jar & they make lids for the jars that have holes in it already. You can also upcycle a container and poke holes in the lid) I used a old dollar store gel air freshener container.
- Pot
- Measuring cup
Step 1
Start by boiling 3/4 cup of water.
Once the water is boiling, add in the Knox Gelatin packet. Stir until in is dissolved. About
2-3 minutes.

Step 2
Once the Knox Gelatin is dissolved, turn off the burner on your stove and let it cool to room temperature. Once The water/Gelatin mixture is cooled, add in 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol
( or Vodka). Stir.
Step 3
Next add in the food coloring. Stir well
At this point, if you are making 1 gel air freshener, then you can add in the essential oil now & mix well. Then carefully pour into the jar/container.
For me I made 2 gel air fresheners. I made it simple & used 1 food coloring for both. After I mixed the food coloring, I then poured the mix into the containers. I then added the essential oils. Mix well. Add as much essential oil as you’d like. I put about 20 drops of essential oil in each.

Step 4
Put the lids on your gel air fresheners and put them in the fridge till they are firm. Pretty much till they look like the consistency of jello. For me I made them at night so I kept them in the fridge overnight & took them out in the morning. They smell amazing! I put them in the high traffic areas in my home.
Feel free to send me pictures of your Gel Air Fresheners. I enjoy seeing what everyone has made.
