DIY Chalk Paint

I have to say, the amount of things we can make from the comfort of our own homes, with products we most likely have already. I’m about 90% sure, almost all of us have baking soda. I was working on a project and I wanted a different paint color. One I didn’t have.

Cream or a antique white. That’s what I wanted. But it wasn’t just the paint color I was looking for. It was also the texture. Now, the project I was working on had old barnwood. So I wanted the pasty like texture. Some peopple have found when they use regular wood, they do not like the texture. It is a little different that regular paint. Sooo…. I made Chalk paint. I was very pleased with the results and not mention how easy it was to make! Enough of me carrying on. πŸ™‚

Homemade Chalk Paint

Supplies:

An acrylic or latex paint of your choice. ( I used white)

Baking Soda

A plastic spoon or something to stir it with.

Tablespoon & Teaspoon

disposable bowl- to put your paint on.

For me, I made enough for a couple little projects. I put about 5-6 Tablespoons of white paint into the bowl. To make the antique white I combined white & a little bit of yellow paint together. ( I guesstimated) Next take the baking soda, depending on how much paint you are making will depend on how much baking soda you will need to put in. Start with 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda, Stir it in your paint, if it’s still liquidy than add more in. Keep adding till you get to the consistency you want. You will start to see little bumps. ( It looks like thick batter) if its too thick then put a tiny bit of your paint in and mix it.

I put two coats on my project. Then sanded it down paying more attention to the areas I wanted to distress. That’s it, that’s all there is too it!

You can’t really tell by the picture but it is an off white color
