Work Smart

DIY Homemade Floor Cleaner

I noticed recently that no matter what floor cleaner I use, my floors are still not getting clean enough. Even after buying a brand new mop. A few people I know make their own floor cleaning solution and they say it cleans better than any store bought, so I had to try it.

After trying this myself this is my go to floor cleaner!

Pro’s of making your own floor cleaner:

• saves money

• you know what ingredients are in it.

• safer for pets & kids

• easy to make

• safe for hardwood floors

** I do recommend testing in a spot on your floor first. Better to be safe .

Supplies & ingredients needed:

Bucket with enough water for your floor

• Vinegar – 1/4 – 1/2 cup

Olive oil – 1 teaspoon

• using olive oil will help make your floors shine. According to quite a few sources, olive oil is effective at conditioning wood. The antioxidants in the oil help protect the wood from environmental damage to it. ( Resources: Vintage & Specialty wood, GreenyPlace.com, Martha Stewart)

Essential oil – lemon 5-7 drops (choice is yours to how many drops you’d like to put in)

  • You can use lemon, citrus, lavender, sage, etc. it’s for fragrance.
  • I do recommend lemon essential oil, it not only smells good, the ingredient lionene in the oil cuts through grease and grime.

Step 1:

Add the above ingredients into your bucket of water. Stir it a bit to make sure all the ingredients are combined.

Step 2:

Wash your floor 😊

I hope this works for you as well as it did for me!

Till next time,

~ Mel
