Work Smart

Times have changed , electric canning method!

Every year when we plant our vegetable garden, we end up having an over abundance of certain veggies. this year we planted less tomatoes and still have to much.

So I started canning. Last week I dehydrated tomatoes, green peppers & onions. Then on Friday, my son and I made delicious pickles the old fashioned way. In a crock.

We went online/social media looking for a good recipe and we ended up creating our own. Super easy! I did notice there’s more recipes that are “refrigerated pickles”. You put the basic ingredients in the jar with the cucumbers and in a hour ish, you have pickles.

I honestly prefer the crock. To me, doing it in the crock, the pickles get a stronger taste. When making them in the crock, I’ve read some people let the cucumbers/pickles sit in the crock for 3-7 days and I’ve read others let them sit in the crock for a couple weeks. We’ve made pickles before, I’m clueless to what the ingredients were though. I just remember making pickles in the crock.

One thing about canning, I’m not a fan of canning them using the stock pot method. Yes it’s easy but requires extra steps and a lot of patience.

So of course, I wanted to find a quicker way to can.

We found this electric canner on Amazon.

This thing is super cool! You can use it on wide mouth or regular jars. It’s chargeable and comes with a charging cord, also comes with lids and labels. It’s really reasonable too! This one is $22.

I highly recommend one of these! It saves a lot of work.

Till next time,
