Make a Macrame a candle Holder with me!

I came across a fun little DIY project yesterday, a macrame candle holder. It makes a nice little candle holder for the home.

A little fun facts for you:

Macrame first started in the 13th century. Arabs would tie knots along the fringes of their rugs so they wouldn’t come apart. The knotting trend back then had gotten a lot of people trying different knots.

In their free time, sailors would practice tying different knots.

Let’s get started.

Supplies needed:

• Jar – I used a small salsa jar.

• Macrame cord-the thinker the better for this project

• Scissors

• Hot glue gun & hot glue sticks ( you can use regular glue, Ive found that hot glue sets quicker.

Optional :

• Beads 6mm

• Wire- long enough to wrap around the jar. Thick enough for 6 mm beads to go on.

Step 1:

Start by measuring and cutting your macrame cord. I measured mine by holding my arms all the way out to my sides.

Now I used too thin of cord. So I ended up wrapping mine around the jar twice. (You’ll see what I mean). So you will want enough cord to wrap around the jar. Going from the bottom of the jar, to the neck of the jar. I cut 15 pieces of macrame cord. You will want them in sections of 3. So I needed 5 sets. That’s 15 pieces of cord.

Step 2:

Once the cord is cut, you will turn the jar sideways and hot glue the ends of the cords to the jar. Then separate them into groups of 3. You’re weaving the cords.

Step 3:

Starting from left to right. Take your first set of 3, go under the second set of 3. Go above the third set, then under the fourth set and repeat that till you weaved the first set to the end of that row.

Step 4:

Now, once you are done with the first row, you will go back to the left and do this again. Repeating the steps to weave the cord through. (Under first set, above second set, etc)

I weaved mine enough to wrap around the jar twice. (Mainly because the cord I have is small)

Once I finished I cut the cord and hot glued the ends to the jar. Like I did at the beginning.

Step 5 – OPTIONAL

This step is optional.

Take your wire, measure it by wrapping it around the jar, making sure to leave a little bit extra to knot the ends.

Take one end and fold it. Kinda like a swirl shape. Put your beads on the wire. When you are finished, wrap it around the jar. Twist the ends together so it stays on.

That’s it!

Total time- 20 minutes.
