We’ve had so many warnings and close calls where we live with tornadoes. So much of a close call that it hit our neighbors across the street. We got lucky!
The last tornado a couple months ago, I decided to put a bin together of our “tornado emergency supplies.” Which I will be transferring to a backpack soon.
But every time, I have to run around looking for a flashlight or a power bank, etc. it’s annoying and you really don’t have time for that.
When you’re in this kind of situation, what do you bring with you?
Today I am going over a list of things you’ll need just in case. It’s better to be prepared. I am not talking about the food supplies bin. Just an emergency run to the basement, closet, bathtub type emergency kit.
- Power banks with cords for your cell phones.
- Several flashlights – they do sell wind up flashlights and solar powered ones.
- Batteries
- Emergency blanket
- List of emergency contacts in case God forbid something happens to you and whomever finds you, knows who to call. If you have access to a laminator then I suggest you laminate the list so it doesn’t get ruined.
- A portable AM/FM radio. In case the power goes out you can listen to the news.
- Small first aide kit.
- Pocket knife
- All purpose utility knife
- Water bottles
- Watch or small travel clock
- Work gloves
- Rope
- If you have pets, keep some treats in the bag. In case you need to bribe your pet to stay put.
If you have read my blog in the past, you probably recall how I’ve discussed in numerous posts on emergency situations.
- Keep a bag or bin downstairs or in a closet (that is closest to the main area to grab quickly) with items of clothing for your family. Sweaters, socks, pants. Also blankets.
- Your bin should have canned goods, toiletries, things that do not expire.
I hope this article helps you. Some people may find this silly, but when you’re in that situation and you are not prepared, it’s not so silly anymore.
