Homemade Smoky BBQ Rub

With Father’s Day coming I started to rack my brain on what to get the kids dad for Father’s Day. For one- he’s picky. Two- he doesn’t really have any hobbies anymore that he likes to do.

One thing he does love…. His smoker outside. He loves cooking in it! So I thought this year I’d put together some stuff for his smoker.

Today’s post is Homemade BBQ Rub.

(No he does not read my blog so I don’t have to worry about him seeing this )

Let’s get started-

Supplies needed:

A jar/jars with lid

Tablespoons & teaspoon

Measuring cups

Bowl

Spoon

Funnel

Labels and marker

  • The jars I used are oui yogurt jars. The lids I bought awhile back on Amazon. I also saw the lids cheaper on Temu if you only want a few of them.

Ingredients:

Brown sugar – 1/4 cup

Salt – 1/4 cup

2 T sugar

1 tsp ground dry mustard

2 tsp garlic powder (I smoked the garlic)

2 tsp black pepper

1 tsp celery salt

2 T + 2 tsp smoked paprika

TIP- I doubled my recipe and it made 2 oui jars full of+ a half a sandwich ziplock bag.

Before we begin, you can use regular paprika in this rub recipe. The smoky flavor gives it the extra added flavor that tastes sooo good on roasts, etc.

Step 1:

If you have a smoker, heat it to 180-190 degrees. Put your paprika and other spices if you choose to smoke them, (I also smoked the garlic); put them in a big foil pan (you can find at the dollar store). I took 2 large pieces of aluminum foil and set them side by side in the aluminum pan. Poured the paprika on one and the garlic on the other. Lift up the sides of the foil so it does not spill over accidentally.

I ended up removing them from the pan and putting them right onto the shelf in the smoker.

Close the door and now we wait. Smoker heated at 180-190 degrees for 3-5 hours depending on how much you want the smoky flavor. Since this was my first time using his smoker I opted for 3 1/2 hrs.

If you are not smoking the paprika you can purchase “smoked” paprika at the store in the spice section. You can skip this step then.

Step 2:

Pour all ingredients into a bowl and mix well. After mixing, divide the bbq rub into the jars. I need enough for 2 people. So mom, when you read this please don’t tell dad it’s coming! 😊🤗

You can use a funnel for this part or fold a paper plate and stick one opening in the jar.

Don’t forget to label the jar(s).

Over the next week or so I will be doing a series of these. Enjoy 😊❤️
