Work Smart

Pesky little things….

Good morning. In 2023 I wrote a post about how to get rid of Aphids using ingredients you may already have at home. No added chemicals.

You can read about it here~

Aphids are super tiny little bugs that pretty much kill your plants. They suck the nutrients out of the leaves causing them to dry up and die.

I read somewhere that Aphids do not like mulch. Not only can they not walk on it but cedar mulch emits aromatic hydrocarbons and other natural chemicals (the main one being thujone) that act as natural pesticides.

The second we put my Hibiscus’s outside, the little pests started going on them. It’s quite annoying. Normally I would use my spray mix on the plants. It works like a charm! This year though, I wanted to try mulch.

I seriously should have had my camera ready! Once we put the mulch in the pots, I looked at the rim of the pots and the Aphids were scattering away. Literally. I couldn’t have been happier!

I highly recommend the mulch for your plants. I did read to be careful because mulch deters other needed bugs like lady bugs. To be honest I’ve never had that problem. The ladybugs still come.

Give it a try! Let me know how it works out for you.
