Learning

What’s something you believe everyone should know.

I think they should have a class in school here to teach kids simple things….

* Like how to change your oil ( yes there’s auto classes but not everyone takes it especially girls),

* the basics of every day cooking

* Special ED- They teach you how to pay for things but not counting what you get back.

* Social & emotional skills

* Writing in cursive- They stopped teaching that many years ago. My son is 20 and his hand writing looks like something a 10 yr old wrote.

* The basics of household chores such as – doing laundry

* Public transportation

* Maintaining a calendar

* Homestead skills, off grid living or self sufficient living.

These are just a few examples. Having a class where they could teach children these things would be beneficial on them.

  1. We actually saw the other day that one state is making it mandatory this year and from now on to teach cursive writing now.

    1. That’s awesome! Around here they felt cursive wasn’t necessary so they took it out of the curriculum completely. I a always wondered why they don’t teach the basic things though.

      1. Well i dont know about there but here, after about 2nd or 3rd grade, everything is on either a tablet or pc.. and i do mean everything. All the reading, writing and working with the teacher except for maybe art or something.. im thinking thats the problem with todays society as well, they are taught they dont have to interact except via the internet.

      2. Same here. The school provides the kids with laptops and they give the laptops back when they graduate their senior year. I very rarely see worksheets unless it’s a project.

      3. Not seeing anything is a big red flag to me, also here they have a afterschool deal, basicly you droo your kids off at school in the morning and they dont even get home until like 7pm. Makes you wonder about the indoctrination going on with never seeing your kids.

      4. That’s a little too much I think. I agree w/ after school activities but till 7? That’s too long.
        My daughter brought home a worksheet for homework the other day, I said β€œ wow, they actually know what paper is at your school?”

  4. I believe we should all be modeling and teaching children to love and care for Nature. I think its crucial that we all learn to value and care for Earth’s environment and each other. By connecting to Nature and learning about life in ecosystems we can then better understand why we do need to actively protect the environment. We are all dependent on earth, needing clean, non-toxic food chains, water and air supplies.
    Teaching values of kindness, appreciating beauty in nature and caring for protecting it, can help us all find solutions to saving our mutually shared and beautiful planet home.

    This is the theme of my children’s book. It’s my effort to teach and broaden understanding of our having great value and of All beings being interconnected.
