10 + Uses for Rubbing Alcohol

Hi everyone. I was going through my supplies, taking inventory and it got me thinking… I use Rubbing Alcohol commonly known as “isopropyl alcohol”, for a lot of things. Some people are not aware of the many used you can use it for.

Rubbing Alcohol/Isopropyl alcohol is a solvent that dissolves many oils, glues, and various sticky things that you’re going to encounter in an art studio or craft room. The same properties that make isopropanol excellent for cleaning electronic equipment make it fantastic prep for getting a grease-free surface prior to painting. It does a lot of the same things that acetone does, but is much less toxic and won’t ruin your manicure.

Rubbing Alcohol is a commonly used household chemical. Here is a list of some of the many uses for Rubbing Alcohol –

  1. Cleansing of Tick Removal.

After removing a tick, you can cleanse the area/wound by gently wiping rubbing alcohol on it to disinfect it. Also, Ticks do not like the alcohol. A few drops of rubbing alcohol onto the Tick it will start to wiggle itself out.

After people get their ears pierced, you can put rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball and gently dab it on the ear around the piercing on the front and back of the ear. Generally done twice a day.

Rubbing alcohol can help kill odor-causing bacteria. A person can apply rubbing alcohol under the armpits to help eliminate body odors. However, they should avoid applyling rubbing alcohol soon after shaving, as this will cause stinging.

Shoes can develop a strong odor, particularly if a person wears them while exercising or doing other physical activity. Spraying the insoles of the shoes with rubbing alcohol can help eliminate odor-causing bacteria.

Most recipes will tell you to put a carrier oil, rubbing alcohol or vinegar and a essential oil into a spray bottle. Shake well and let sit for about an hour to let the essential oil mix into the rubbing alcohol. Then spray to freshen a room. As well as disinfecting kitchen & bathroom cleaning sponges.

Rubbing Alcohol is used to clean & disinfect hard surface areas. It is effective against most but not all pathogens.

Mixing 2 parts rubbing alcohol with 1 part Aloe Vera gel to make your own hand sanitizer.

You can use rubbing alcohol to clean stubborn stains off of a Dry Erase Board. Put a little Rubbing Alcohol on a paper towel and wipe the spot on the board.

Mix 1 part water with 2 parts rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. Spray your windshield to help melt the ice. Alcohol freezes at a lower temperature than water. The solution will melt the ice before it even has a chance to freeze.
